The TransEurope Project
The TransEurope Project is a new European platform addressed to emerging or mid-career, professional photographers and visual artists. The goal is to facilitate access to professional opportunities/networking, to develop their skills via new tools and new media, as well as to create the conditions for greater transnational circulation of their works.
TransEurope Photo will be organizing this First Activity of Preparatory Training Workshop with international experts in 14 different countries from January until March 2018.
These sessions are customized educative sessions that will also prepare the ones interested in participating in the Second Activity of Portfolio Reviews that in Athens, Greece will take place on May-June 2018.
Preparatory Training Workshop Summary
The workshop will be based on portfolio reviewing, which will take place throughout the day; each participant will have about 15 minutes to present his/her work (preferably prints in order to give a hands-on editing approach of the portfolio).
During the session Jean-Christophe Béchet will refer to examples from books or photographic series, as he has a rich professional experience – he has edited twenty books and curated more than 50 exhibitions.
All participants will also be welcomed to express their point of view on the different portfolios as this is also considered part of the learning procedure. The goal is to explain that photography is a process which includes various stages and that editing is as important as the choice of the subject matter and the production of the photos. Of course, the focus will always be oriented towards the result, whether that is an exhibition, a book or a multimedia projection – and every type of presentation entails a different mind-set and reflection in order for one to make the relevant selections.
The Transeurope Project is co-organized by the Fundacion Contamporanea-PhotoEspaña in Madrid, the Finnish Museum of Photography in Helsinki and Euromare NPC in Athens, and co-funded with support from the European Commission, Creative Europe Culture-Educational, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency.
In a span of two years the TransEurope Photo project activities will include: a web platform, 14 preparatory training workshops in 14 countries portfolio reviews, masterclasses/conferences, visits and meetings, three exhibitions and an accompanying magazine/catalogue for 30 selected participants of the portfolio reviews!
